Project Pink: For The Social Generation

Microsoft officially announced it’s “Project Pink” today, probably not to the OoOo’s and AhhHhh’s they were hoping for. Granted, I still think it’s at least worth taking a look at. Just because it doesn’t say “Apple” or have the nice little bitten off fruit on the back of it doesn’t mean it won’t be a decent product.

Today Microsoft released two new phones that will at first be exclusively sold on Verizon Wireless. The KIN ONE and the KIN TWO are Microsoft’s answer to the social media generation. The KIN ONE is the smaller phone, easier to use and easier to fit into your pocket. While the KIN TWO is the larger phone with the bigger screen, keyboard and more memory. But the phones are still very similar. Both have a touch screen and a full slide out QWERTY keyboard.

Microsoft’s announcement reads:

The home screen of the phone is called the KIN Loop, which is always up to date and always on, showing all the things happening in someone’s social world. Another unique feature, the KIN Spot…lets them focus first on the people and stuff they want to share rather than the specific application they want to use. Videos, photos, text messages, Web pages, location and status updates are shared by simply dragging them to a single place on the phone called the Spot.

A little further down it reads:

KIN Studio is your phone online. Almost everything created on the phone is available in the cloud from any Web browser. Photos and videos are freed from the confines of the phone and presented in an online visual timeline so they are easy to view and share. The KIN Studio automatically backs up texts, call history, photos, videos and contacts, and populates a personalized digital journal so it’s easy to go back in time to relive a crazy weekend or recent birthday.

I don’t know about you but that sounds awesome to me! Every time you take a picture or a video it is automatically backed up to a personal website on the internet for you to use later. Come on Google phone, where are you on this one?

Now I haven’t played with one myself yet but just looking at the pictures makes me think that I wouldn’t like the feel of this phone. To me it looks like Microsoft tried to remake an iPhone and then stuck a keyboard under it. But I could definitely be wrong. I look forward to the day I get to play with one and be proved wrong. *hint hint Microsoft*
