Career Fair In Kansas City

For some time now, I have wanted to move down to Kansas City, MO. I believe it is the perfect “compromise” city. And I don’t mean that in a bad way. That’s the best thing ever! You can’t get absolutely everything from a city or a geographical place you live, but I feel Kansas City has the best of everything.

Kansas City Skyline and Buildings

Just so everyone knows, I’ll be graduating at the beginning of May and I can’t wait. I’ll finally be done with school and onto real life. Getting a job, buying a house, starting a family, you know, all the good stuff!
Now why do you say that Kansas City is the best city for you Devon? Well let me tell you.

  • South. We all know by now that Devon does not like the winter. I’ve posted before about how I don’t like winter and I’ll probably do it again. But Kansas City is a little farther south than South Dakota. I realize it’s not going to be 80 degrees year round, but it will be better.
  • Big City Life. With a metro area of almost 2.1 million people, this is much bigger than anything you can find in South Dakota. I’m a technology driven, social media craving, gadget geek and I will definitely be able to get my fix in a larger city. Also with a bigger city comes more job opportunities. I like the idea of getting a job once I graduate.
  • Close to SD. While KC is far enough away from South Dakota for me to be independent, it is still close enough to be able to drive back to visit my family. Most other big cities are on a coast and/or a long plane ride away, while KC is close enough to drive home.
  • Cost of living. Not to many states can beat South Dakota on it’s cost of living but Missouri comes close. Luckily, with a tiny increase in living expenses also come a very nice increase in pay rates.

So now that you know why I want to go to Kansas City, I’m here to tell you I’m doing it! I’m just doing it man! This weekend I’m driving down to Kansas City for a career fair. I’ll finally be putting myself in front of employers looking to hire instead of just emailing out my resume to companies I find on the internet. I’m so excited that I can barely contain myself. Hopefully someone will like me and I can land the job of my dreams while I’m there!
